Review: It Came From the West

ZombieWestern: It Came From the West is nothing less than the only original idea left in Hollywood. So it’s not a surprise then that it’s not actually from Hollywood. It’s from Denmark. Born from an original idea for a live-action movie, it was later changed to be a puppet action piece because when director Tor Fruergaard realized he had ‘less than no money’ he knew he could do all the work himself at little cost. It should be mentioned at this point that this is a short film and it should also be mentioned that the producer, Soren Fleng (sorry I don’t know how to do the cool symbols for Danish names, so go to imdb.com for the actual spelling for this man’s name) found out on Thursday that his short would be showcased and jumped on a plane to be here. For a short. These people are really serious about their movie and they should be! It’s pretty spectacular.

It’s about a kid named Virgil who is the son of the local tavern owner and the tavern is attacked by zombies, which is right about the time when Virgil realizes his dad has been brutally killing local Native American Indians who have placed this zombie curse on the town in the first place. Yes, that’s right. That’s the plot of the *short* film. And by short I mean no longer than 10 minutes. And yes, when it’s released here on DVD you should totally go support them because they are trying to get together enough cash to make a feature with an extended version of the same plot, specifically with a love story added. I strongly recommend getting your hands on this any way you can. We were lucky enough to purchase a DVD from Soren when he was here. It dubbed and some of the humor is off because it’s likely cultural but it’s the best short film I know I’ve ever seen…. and you’ll all likely agree with me.

I’ve posted the trailer above. Go and enjoy!
