Every week more movies. Every week I love this experience more.

Caaaaaaaaaannnnnnn yooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuu diiiiiig it?

Oh GAWD yes. I totally CAN dig it, Cyrus. Last night’s installment of The Wright Stuff was no exception to the excellent movies and great crowds, showing The Wanderers and The Warriors, neither of which I had seen before and both not to be missed. Video and very mini-reviews after the jump….

The Wanderers is the story of an Italian high school gang in the Bronx in the 50s. Chock full of racial slurs and old-timey sensibilities, it’s aged reasonably well as a story about how everyone is human and we all fight – essentially – the same battles. Rarely shown on the big screen the print was pretty crappy but that only added to its charm. “Female to male foot in crotch” and the very, very hot Karen Allen this is a real staple of the ‘gang’ genre and you should totally check it out on DVD. Intro below.

The Warriors – on the other hand – instantly became one of my favorite movies. I’ve never seen it before and as soon as it was over my husband found himself in a great deal of trouble for not sitting me down and forcing me to watch it before now. Obviously, I loved it. I also loved seeing it on the big screen for the first time and with a crowd peppered with people who were both seasoned viewers and first timers. Edgar’s intro included an email from Frank Marshall, the EP on the project, who had some sage words in it, especially those about what the story was based on – The Iliad, apparently. It would seem that they call them the classics because they’re actually classic. Who would have imagined that an ancient story would lend itself so well to a story about New York gangs in some future time? Flat out, instantly, a favorite. Intro below.

*SO.* Screamingly funny intros, emails from EPs, brilliant movies put together in excellent combinations and, best of all, Mr. Edgar Wright to watch them with. Why are you not there?
