I was on my way home last night when I found a postcard in an empty newspaper box that wanted me to be the best screenwriter I could be. I figured that it was for something long in the past, so I picked it up. Turned out that it wasn’t for something long ago, but for something coming up. The Raindance Canada Filmmaking Festival (this is my title, not theirs) is on from April 21 to April 26, 2009. Looks brilliant. The courses are a little on the pricey side (especially for the two-day seminar) but looks remarkably as though it is well worth it.
I’ve never heard of Raindance Canada, but according to their website they are:
“…dedicated to fostering and promoting independent film in Canada and around the world. Raindance combines London, England’s Raindance Film Festival, Training Courses and Raindance.tv.
Raindance spans the full spectrum of the art, craft and business of independent movies – from guerilla style low or no budget productions to big budget indie blockbusters.
We don’t teach Filmmaking. We make Filmmakers.”
I like it when organizations make definitive statements. I’m definitely going to check out some of this little festival and you should too. Also, check out the site to become a member. Has lots of benefits and is free. The list of courses and descriptions is on the right hand side.
