This might make me unpopular, but I’m prepared for that. I’m also open to your comments, but that’s not going to change how I feel about this movie. I believe firmly in the educational and transformative properties of film. I always have. This is a perfect case for that. Even though I have not seen Not Yet Rain, it is only a matter of time and, in the meantime I can spread the word.
Not Yet Rain is a documentary short film about unsafe abortion, specifically in Ethiopia. Their website (www.notyetrain.org) says about the film:
“Every year, millions of women around the world risk their lives to end unintended pregnancies. While a law enacted in 2006 marked great progress toward reproductive freedom in Ethiopia, Not Yet Rain shows that changing the law is just the first step; much more needs to be done as women continue to die from unsafe abortions. Training for health workers and increased availability of care could save the lives of women in Ethiopia and around the world.”
Dan from Film Babble Blog posted up about this recently and I thought I’d help to spread the word. If you head to the website and click on the ‘Women’s Stories’ link you’ll find some very upsetting stories, but just because they’re upsetting doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t watch them. I strongly recommend getting the DVD, should you feel that you can support this cause, because when someone stands up and makes something that can enact change, we should all support them.
Please note that while I always welcome all comments, due to the politically charged nature of this particular topic I would respectfully request that you keep your comments to opinion and fact, as well as non-abusive and remain respectful. Abusive comments will be deleted. I appreciate your co-operation in keeping this blog a good place to be.
