Trick r Treat Getting DVD Release?

Shock Till You Drop is reporting that there’s a new trailer for Trick r Treat up on About.com (link here). At the end of the trailer it says coming in October, which excites me to no end. That said, there would appear to be some issues with this.

Trick r Treat is an anthology of stories about Halloween (mostly urban legends such as blowing out your Jack O’ Lantern too soon) and it has a brilliant cast. Brian Cox, Leslie Bibb (from Midnight Meat Train, who clearly had a knack for spotting films that will live in distribution hell for years), Anna Paquin and Dylan Baker. All of the stories are tied together by this little guy from the poster, Sam, dressed like a child in a burlap sack and – apparently – ready to wreak some havoc.

Sadly, one of the users on Shock says this:

Well everyone keep your fingers crossed because Dougherty just said this news is still not a hundred percent true =/ about the dvd or the movie hitting theaters. He said wait for announcements at comic con in july and at fangoria weekend of horrors in nyc. If you don’t believe me write to him on myspace he will get back to you.”

Sad, right? Just when they get my hopes up, they’re dashed again. I would be pretty excited about this if it did happen. The last movie that was stuck in distribution hell that I really loved was Midnight Meat Train and this movie is likely being subject to the same “changing of the guard” issues that MMT was. It’s too bad that the studio feels that there’s only a market for super-over-blown torture porn and horrible remakes. If only they knew that – at this point – we’ll watch pretty much everything just so that we don’t have to watch THAT crap!
