Danny is a gay 14 year-old in Holland. Danny comes from a small community where few are completely accepting of others’ sexual orientation. All Danny wants is a way to get int touch with other gay teens in his community and, well, all of the Netherlands. The solution? A boat in Amsterdam’s Pride Boat Parade. And oh what a stir he causes.
Danny’s Parade is a wonderful story about a boy who wants to connect with his community. Better than that, it’s watching the birth of an activist, at the very least, an organizer, something every community needs more of.
In its short 15 minutes we see Danny change from a boy who wants to meet people into a young man with an eye towards showing the world there’s more to being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered youth.
Danny is wonderful and engaging and captured with tenderness by a clearly wonderful filmmaker.
If you speak Dutch, head on over to www.jongenout.nl (or use Google translator) for more information on Danny’s Parade. Also, just for fun, I’ve embedded some footage from the parade itself (note, this is not the short, simply someone’s footage from the event for you to enjoy).
