What Did You See This Weekend?

in what did you see?

Sorry that this is a day late. I was distracted by the assy-ness of Terminator. I saw Red Mist and My Bloody Valentine (which I wrote about yesterday) as well as Terminator and The Times of Harvey Milk on DVD.

What did you see? Terminator? Got thoughts? Anything good?

I’ve seen oodles of stuff recently but on the weekend I settled into a great kids film double bill with The Spiderwick Chronicles and Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. They are both a lot of fun, I’m a Narnia fan so that one for me was an easy sell. I was surprized not to have seen Spiderwick Chronicles before – it was a lot of fun and a solid kid/fantasy film with spot on dialogue. Good times!

I saw Terminator this weekend, on my husband’s urging. I was not really keen to see it because of the bad reviews and the terrible posters. It was much better than I expected! Better than T3, I thought. I think that it was the Mark character that was really good and I looked foward to his scenes and I also liked the visualiztion of the post Judgement Day reality. Thank you lowered expectations.

Whee for lowered expectations. I”m madly in love with Marcus Wright so I’m pretty biased, but yes, I liked him too. :) That double bill sounds pretty great Shannon. I didn’t really love Prince Caspian but I really, really liked Spiderwick. I’m not sure why it did so poorly and got such bad reviews. Perfect? Certainly not. Enjoyable? Absolutely. Isn’t that what movies are supposed to be?

I thought Terminator: Salvation was a pathetic waste of time, money, and energy. It was a horrible film. Sure, some explosions went off on time, but that’s about it. Bale should be embarrassed with himself for signing on to this mess. McG should never be allowed near a movie camera again. He’s had 4 chances now and he’s failed each and every time. And my expectations, based on the buzz and reviews, were in the TOILET to begin with…

I saw the thriller “All the Boys Love Mandy Lane” and I really liked its plot twist at the end. The best filim I saw this week-end was Park Chan-wook’s “Lady Vengeance”. Obviously, the first that I had was that its plot’s structure looked like a Hollywood film. However, as the film advances, it was nice to see how Park explores this fantasy of ours to commit violence on undesirable individuals while we, at the same time, condemn violence through our laws. Besides, the cast’s performance was so outstanding. Anyway, I’m looking forward to watch “Oldboy”.

Finally, I’d have liked to leave a detailed comment on your post on Proposition 8 since I concur with what you wrote. Despite that, I’d stick to this post’s topic.

Tell us how you really feel Actionman. No really, just let it all out.

Anh Khoi, I’m going to be finishing my coverage of Inside Out this week and will include a post on which your comments about this topic would be most welcome. Don’t worry, there’ll be time. I haven’t seen Lady Vengeance, but it’s on the list. I think you’ll really like Oldboy. It’s pretty awesome. I have only two words for you: Hammer Fight.

It’s okay. You don’t have to force yourself to write about Proposition 8 unless you have fun doing it. As for Park Chan-wook, the pace of “Lady Vengeance sure helped me to like it better than Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, which was damn slow (but well written).
