The Devil’s Tail Q&A

The first thing Chris Comrie said when he arrived, walking disheveledly across the stage at Innis Hall was, “You know when you’re at the film festival and they say ‘The filmmakers just got off the plane with a fresh cut of the film and they’re be here soon…’ and you go, ‘Oh yeah, right. What as*holes. Get it together.’ I have a lot more sympathy now….” (Or something approximating that.) After that I knew I would be in for a great ride on Saturday night seeing local independent film The Devil’s Tail.

Below is Chris’ introduction to the film and some background on how it came to be.

This is the Q&A footage from after the screening. It was less of a Q&A and more of a cast & crew debrief – which I kind of prefer, actually. Definitely worth your time to watch.

At the party after the screening Chris spoke eloquently about how he felt that there was little opportunity for filmmakers in this country to spread their wings. He indicated that he felt that there was this “wall” that they come up against when trying to make their way through simply telling a story that’s important to them, even though it seems that there’s little interest. Chris and Sam are two very intelligent, creative artists who are looking to tell stories about us and I think we should listen. It should also be noted that Chris is one of the most charismatic filmmakers I’ve come across in a long time. The reason the pic up there of him is blurry is that he simply never stood still long enough for me to get a good shot.
