Alice in Wonderland: Gone to Crazytown

So is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that Johnny Depp has lost his edge by selling out to Disney? I know, I know. It is blasphemy to speak against The Depp, but seriously. The man has no bite since he signed a multi-film contract with them. Also, does anyone else tire of watching Helena Bonham Carter just look weird? Long gone are the days when she was a brilliant actress who embodied characters like no other.

Anyway, Alice in Wonderland does look pretty good, but also pretty classic Burton crazy. Nothing new to see here, but I do prefer it when they appropriately match the insanity of a director to the looniness of a project. See: Guillermo Del Toro and Hellboy.

Wow, this is definitely something to look forward to. I love the movies with such great visuals. I hope it will be better than Sweeney Todd, it should be because the plot is so much better!

It’s true. I wasn’t such a fan of Sweeney Todd. It didn’t know what it wanted to be. But this, on the other hand, is likely going to be Batman Returns meets Pee Wee’s Big Adventure with a little blonde girl. I’m really looking forward to it.

Call me a sucker, but I’ll watch just about anything Tim Burton does. Recipe for a TB hit:

-take one part Johnny Depp, mix with over-the-top costuming, add a dash of Helena Bonham-Carter speaking in some kind of odd manner with equally perplexing hair and makeup. Stir it up and taste. If required, throw in a dash of claymation skeletons. If the flavour is still not quite right, add singing and dancing CGI midgets liberally. Ta-da!
