Fascinating Q&A with Black director Pierre Laffargue and producer Lauranne Bourrachat. Video and more after the jump.

After seeing the incredible film that is Black it was a delight to have both the filmmaker and the producer available to discuss the film with the audience. They spoke very intelligently about the trials and tribulations of getting this film made and a number of the choices that were made.

Of note, Laffargue mentions the original screenwriter Lucio Mad a number of times. While I wasn’t able to ask the question it would appear that for one reason or another he was unable to finish the film. In fact, the film was dedicated to him in the opening credits. Regardless of the reason it would seem that Lucio Mad had a great deal of influence on the film and its creation.

Please note: There are definitely some spoilers in this Q&A, so I would suggest watching it after the film. That said, once you have seen it, check out the Q&A because these filmmakers are too wonderful to miss.

Questions: Why set this film in Senegal, rather than Paris, and what about conflict diamonds?

Questions: How long did the movie take to make? Also about some of the trouble getting it made.

Questions: About the casting process and some background on the female lead, Carole Karemera.

Question: About the soundtrack.

Question: About the animal influence in the movie and about working with snakes.
