So the new ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ trailer hit the web this week (more on that later) and the first thing I noticed, besides awesome and John Connor, was Kyle Gallner. Kyle Gallner is probably a name and a face you’re not that familiar with yet… that’s why I’m helping you.
Gallner came to my household’s attention the first time as “Bart Allen” on Smallville. (Nerd break: Apparently he’s supposed to The Flash… now why BART I have no idea and I don’t like it frankly. Barry Allen. Wally West. It’s not that hard. I smell rights issues. And we’re back.) He was annoying, smart-assed and, well, perfect. We loved him as Flash from the moment he sped on screen. After seeing him in a number of other TV shows such as Veronica Mars, CSI, Bones, Medium, etc, he came to our attention again as “that kid who looks familiar” in the movie Red.
Red is a movie about a man whose dog is killed by a group of kids who are just looking for trouble. It’s a movie about justice, it’s a movie about forgiveness and it’s a movie about human nature. It’s a fantastic movie that was, sadly, largely overlooked. The two most stand out performances in the film were the lead, Brian Cox, and the brother of the kid who did the shooting, Kyle Gallner. Next he was the lead in A Haunting in Connecticut. A reasonable role in a movie no one saw. Again he managed to somehow make me care more than I think I was supposed to and kept me interested in a movie that was, all thing considered, pretty bad. In that movie he was most certainly better than the script.
Recently we saw him again in Jennifer’s Body as a totally two dimensional character that was somehow fleshed out enough to make you care with mere minutes on screen and now he’s in the new Nightmare.
Kyle Gallner is a very talented young actor who has the capacity for a great deal of depth and a good deal of acting ability. I would certainly enjoy watching him in many, many more films but I am growing afraid that he’s just going to become another teen flash-in-the-pan, perpetually ending up as blade or demon fodder. I certainly hope not because he’s cute, he’s talented and, so far, he seems to have a good agent. You should check out his work and find out why I think he’s The Weekly Awesome.

Awesome Article! I definitely posted this on my Kyle community on LJ. I completely agree with everything you guys said. Hes one of the great actors at the moment, and I hope he shows the potentional and starts getting some great roles. I hope Nightmare sets him in the right path. Puts him on the popularity list, but not the ” teeny bopper” popularity list.
.-= Holley´s last blog post ..From now on =-.
Hey Holley! Thank for the compliment! Thanks for the link too! It’s very interesting to find these up and coming young actors with a great deal of talent who get relegated to the back benches of slasher fodder simply because they’re young. I really hope Nightmare is good too and that it gets him up out of the trenches. I think this kid is a contender for awards for sure. Can somebody give him a chance?
I first noticed him un Haunting in Connecticut and fell in love with him! I have rented almost everything else available he’s in and I agree that he is absolutely a talented actor. I do hope he get’s greater roles and we can see him more!
