Hey there everyone…. I”m having some technical difficulties with the site today. It seems that when you click into a post to read more that you get a 404 error. I’m working on it and hope to have them resolved soon. Thanks for your patience.
Please accept my apologies for the delay in Toronto After Dark coverage. A virus has put my computer down pretty hard. This problem is expected to be fixed by Sunday afternoon at which point full coverage will again be ongoing. The people at FedEx Kinko’s are nice, but nice post a whole festival’s worth of coverage nice. Warm regards, Trista
So… um…. what?!?! This trailer for ‘There Will Be Blood’ is completely crazy. What’s this movie about? Oil, clearly, but WHY would I want to watch it? And who is that kid?

So…. once you’re done watching the above, it should probably go without saying — unless, of course you’re a heartless bastard — that this movie looks spectacular. Sure it’s got the ‘Inspirational Music’ and it’s got the ‘Serious Movie Voice’ guy doing the voice over, but in between all that I think this could be beautiful. Ron Livingston should really work more. Yeah sure, Band of Brothers, blah blah. But since Office Space and Sex and the City, I can honestly say I haven’t seen that much of him, which is a crying shame considering the immense amount of talent. What blows my mind here is that the guy playing the friend with Cerebral Palsy is the same guy who played Lucien in Underworld and Prime Minister Tony Blair in The Queen. And since he also seems to have such a wealth of talent, it’ll be nice to see two people actually doing justice to what appears on the surface to be a great movie about a topic that actually matters in the world. So rare that is these days, so rare.
And P.S. It would also appear that this particular performance of a person with a disability is going to be good, as opposed to ‘Nardo’s performance in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, which was — unfortunately — largely editing. Oh yeah. And the movie sucked my ball too.
P.P.S. The only thing that could bring this down is the addition of Melissa George who played Lauren Reed on Alias and was without question the best depiction of what happens to a woman when you a) steal someone else’s soulmate (that I had to spend a season and a half watching them NOT be together) b) kill your daddy with the help of your also evil spy mommy and c) an overall c*ntfaced bitch. Makes it kind of hard to enjoy her acting, which may or may not be good. Hopefully the vampires eat her whole in 30 Days of Night.
Okay, so I haven’t had time to post them yet, and I don’t have time now, but I just wanted to pop on and say: On Sunday I watched two of the worst zombie movies ever made. One was by Troma, so it’s to be expected, in fact it would have been disappointing if it didn’t suck. But the other one was a movie that previews itself in the following way: “Every generation has a horror film that defines its culture. This is that film.” Which kind of sucks balls when it doesn’t deliver, non? Skipped all the movies on Monday due to total burn-out and saw two more last night, the first two genuinely good movies of the festival. Have great reviews to post for those as well. More reviews to come…. stay tuned!
