inside out

The Country Teacher is a movie about being lost and being found, it is about how to find your place in the world and, most of all, it is about the costs of lonliness and what we might be willing to do not to be alone. It is a beautifully made movie and tackles a range of taboo subjects, especially taking place in the Czech Republic.

Originally billed as a short about whether or not the service would accept him as he is, this short (only 14 minutes) is more an exploration of Llanden’s journey to define himself and his place in the service than anything else.

The Inside Out Festival opened last night with Patrick, Year 1.5 at The Bloor. I will be covering the Inside Out Festival all next week.

From their press release:
Reborn to a theme of Love! Drama! Sex! Politics!, the Inside Out Toronto LGBT Film and Video Festival (formerly the Inside Out Toronto Lesbian And Gay Film and Video Festival) has widened its tent and its thematic universe in its 19th year.

This year, Inside Out presents films from a total of 29 countries, and the spotlight shines on France with an eclectic mix of 15 Gallic features, docs and shorts. With more than 80 screenings, special events, parties, artist talks and panel discussions, Inside Out’s final “teenage year” will be a combination growing-up celebration and no-holds-barred creative outburst.

“As we strive to become the most comprehensive queer film festival in the world,” says Director of Programming, Jason St. Laurent, “we hope everyone will find something (or someone) to love at Inside Out.”

Check the new site for updates and check out the Inside Out site here for info and tickets. Looks like an excellent year!
